Grief Recovery

It is likely that if you have clicked on this page, that you are going through emotional pain or sadness due to a loss. The fact is that you may be searching for help and learned that “time does not heal”. Your Certified Grief Recovery Specialist, Isobel McArthur, has received specialized training with an approved trainer from the Grief Recovery Institute. Only those that have received this training are authorized to run this Method. Certified Grief Recovery Specialists are encouraged to be non-judgmental, non-critical and compassionate. It is the mission of the Grief Recovery Method, and my mission personally, to help as many grievers as possible in the shortest possible time. There are many options available for you:

One to one personal sessions

Group Outreach Programmes

I am also available for talks on grief recovery. This includes what to say to someone, and even what to write in a sympathy card.  Throughout life, we are conditioned to “get” get, a job, a house, a partner, children, an education, a degree, a career.  However, we are not taught how to deal with loss when it arrives. We are also not trained in what to say to each other. The method has been used successfully with thousands of grievers all over the world, also gives reassurance of its effectiveness. You will be led by the hand and heart through these sessions, taking small steps towards moving you beyond the pain.

What is Grief Recovery?

The Grief Recovery Method was developed by John W. James and Russell Friedman who are the founders of the Grief Recovery Institute in the USA. Together they have assisted in the recovery of thousands of people over the past 30 years. Grief Recovery is not therapy, a treatment, nor bereavement counselling.

There is no need in the Grief Recovery Method to analyze the information of your losses in any way. You are led directly to the actions that lead you to feeling better. We specialize in recovery, and to take all the actions and steps necessary to complete anything left unresolved following a loss. It is not a counseling relationship.

  • Loss may not necessarily be due to a death. There are many types of losses associated with grief including the following:
  • Divorce and relationship breaks ups
  • Loss of trust, security, safety
  • Loss job, health, lifestyle, home
  • Loss of a loving family unit if you have grown up in alcoholic, or dysfunctional family

And, of course, there are many others

Six myths or the things you should avoid saying to grievers:

  1. Don`t feel bad
  2. Replace the loss (e.g., get a new dog)
  3. Grieve alone
  4. Be strong
  5. Keep busy
  6. Time heals all wounds
