Move forward by Letting go

 

Move forward by letting go is a great way to apply a little Feng Shui to your life.  Letting go of clutter, toxic relationship, negative behaviour, and situations invite the new and fresh energy of change to enter your life.  This encourages you to move, take action, and live life in a happier, more peaceful way.

Have you noticed the way people’s energy changes at certain seasons? Spring is a great example. People are bursting with positivity, hope, intention, and planning for sunny days ahead.  Some people feel pulled to do Vision Boards, some enjoy mind maps, other enjoy a combination of both and add-on affirmations too. The words move and change becomes part of their mindset.

The fresh energy of change

Spring arrives, summer comes and goes, people move and create change, yet somehow at some point throughout January, some of that fabulous positive energy may start to wane and you may feel “stuck” uninspired, and lacking in motivation.  It may feel as if you are being held back in some way, and this can actually be true. Sometimes a few session of life coaching may be helpful.

Here are 5 things you may wish to let go of to give you an energy boost to move and nudge you forward again.

  1. Letting go of Clutter

Why not have a really good clutter clear of not only your environment but on the people you choose to associate with. Getting rid of stuff you no longer need or require allows fresh energy to flow into your life.

Stop for a moment, take a look at your wardrobe.  How many outfits are hanging there that you have not worn in the past year?  Which items do you no longer like?  It may be a good idea to bag them up and take them to the Charity shop or sell them online.

Take a look around your home.  If you have objects around you that you dislike looking at, why have them in the first place?  Give them to someone who may appreciate them more than you.  Do you have papers, books strewn everywhere? Buy some pretty boxes and labels and get organized. A place for everything and everything in its place.

Are there people in your life that are holding you back by putting you down, or belittling you in some way?  Is it possible that you could limit your time with these people, or in fact consider whether you need them in your life anyway?

2. Letting go of Grudges and Resentment

These two emotions are so damaging to your overall emotional health and well-being.  The energy attached to these feelings are very draining and rob you of focusing your attention in a happier, productive way.

Sitting in resentment stops you from having clarity on working on yourself personally or professionally.  It is impossible to feel an ongoing feeling of positivity when holding onto resentment.

Life happens, people play up, disappointments and betrayal may present themselves in relationships.  Can you change what has happened? No!  Are you able to change how you choose to feel about it? Yes! It serves no purpose to hold onto resentment or grudges.  You are wasting your precious time and energy which could be spent elsewhere.

  1. Letting go of Social Media Addiction

In the busy world that we live in, our lives are surrounded by digital technology. Of course, there are advantages and disadvantages.  Some of my clients have admitted to being “addicted” to Social Media and find themselves getting lost for hours in the Facebook Newsfeed, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat and other apps.

When you find yourself spending excessive time on Social Media, ask yourself if what you are choosing to do with your time is getting you closer to where you want to be in terms of your goals? Is it going to make you financially free? Does it allow you to move and create change? Are you getting any growth, joy, and happiness from spending huge amounts of time on Social Media?    Your answers will give you clues as to some changes you may need to make to your life.

Perhaps it may be time to let go of the amount of time spent on your devices.  Try to be strict with yourself and allocate specific time limits and stick to them.

Reconnect

Reconnect with nature again.  Go out for a walk in the fresh air.  Connect with real people.  Join interest groups where you meet people face to face and socialize outside of the home and away from the screen.

If you are an entrepreneur or working on aspects of your business, do other business building activities. There is also business to be found offline as well as online.  How will you know if you don’t try?

  1. Switch off the TV

Are you careful what you are exposing your mind to?  Do you find yourself watching TV programmes that are adding no value to your life? What other enjoyable things could you do with your time?  Choosing to switch off the TV can free up huge pockets of time if you are an avid TV watcher.

Life passes very quickly, and each day is a blessing.  Why would you want to waste these precious moments sitting for hours and hours in front of a TV?  By all means, watch documentaries, or something that feeds your soul, nourishes your mind, or inspires you in some way.  What you are feeding your mind is as important as what you feed your body.

Maybe you could use the extra time created by watching TV to study something you have always wanted to learn. Maybe you could exercise more, see a friend, take up a hobby.  Anything that gives you pleasure and an element of personal growth and development.

Choosing to Let Go of Grief and Sadness

 

Sadness

This one can be very difficult for people to do.  The loss of a loved one leaves a big empty void which can be very painful.

It may sound cruel to say that It is a personal choice whether to view the death of a loved one as a celebration of a life well lived or to choose to sit in pain and sadness and not participate in life post-loss.

What would your loved one want you to do?  In most cases, they would want you to continue to live your life and to be happy as much as you can be.

How do we let go of sadness and pain? Is this something that is part of the School Curriculum? Is this something we have been taught how to do? The answer to both questions is NO.   Those tools are not in our toolbox of life.

Fortunately, as a trained Grief Recovery Specialist  I was able to help myself through the loss of my parents and also help others to deal with their loss.  Many others may end up burying or suppressing emotions that will indeed pop up later.

How we respond to grief generally is what we may have observed from our own parents and therefore emulate what they did and said when they went through similar.

To continue enjoying life to the full we must keep moving forward.  There are some that find it extremely difficult to let go and instead choose to live in the past. There is no growth in this behaviour.  If you feel that you are unable to participate fully in your life through holding onto the above emotions, seek out professional support to enable you to move on with your life.

Letting go of the day and looking for the lessons in any challenges that have presented themselves may help you feel more inspired and energized in life.  Instead of focusing on problems, it may help to focus on solutions to keep you moving forward.

Gratitude

At the end of the day, why not write a gratefulness list of all the good things that have happened to you during the day.  The small things are just as important as the big things.  Doing this helps to keep you positive and motivated.

Every day is an opportunity to start fresh.  Don’t carry over negative events, thoughts or feelings into the next day.  Instead, why not wake up with a smile, announce that “this is a new day, and I intend to make it a good and happy one”.

Intention infused with happiness is a very powerful force indeed.
